The 17-year-old Platteville boy who died Friday at Beaver Pond in Fort Collins accidentally drowned, the Larimer County Coroner's Office announced today. Francisco Javier Hernandez was swimming Friday with friends at the pond, which is in Arapaho Bend Natural Area in southeast Fort Collins, when he disappeared about 2 p.m. Divers found him dead in the pond more than two hours later. After a Saturday morning autopsy, Larimer County Coroner Dr. Patrick Allen ruled the death an accidental drowning, according to a news release from the office. Hernandez and three other males were fishing at the pond, where swimming is prohibited. One of the males swam across the pond and motioned for the other three to swim across. Two of the three made it, but Hernandez disappeared into the water. Divers and helicopter crews searched for Hernandez for nearly two hours before locating him.
